Etiquette & Rules - Skaters Code Of Conduct

Skaters registering with the WFSC do so knowing and accepting the rules and etiquette both on and off the ice. The following are rules that must be obeyed at all times.

General

  • Kicking of the ice or foul language will not be tolerated. After one warning by any coach or executive member, the next time, the offender will be asked to leave the ice for the remainder of these session. Should the offender refuse to leave the ice, their skating privileges will be suspended for the next skating  day. Final recourse is fee refund and membership termination.
  • Socializing on the ice between skaters is not permitted. Please leave the ice if you wish to talk.
  • Only authorized persons and skaters may enter the ice surface.
  • Skaters and coaches are asked to clear the ice promptly at the end of each session so that we can keep to our schedule. The Zamboni is not permitted to start movement onto the ice surface until all skaters and coaches are off.
  • Skates may not be put on in the lobby. Please use the dressing rooms. Dressing rooms are to be left clean. Skate guards must be worn in the lobby at all times as requested by facilities management. Skate guards must not be put on the boards on the inside of the glass.
  • No food, drinks or gum is allowed on the ice by skaters or coaches. Drinks should be drank off the ice at the boards. Drinks must not be left on the boards on the inside of the glass or at the players benches.
  • Parents are requested not to interrupt or speak to the instructors or amateur coaches while they are on the ice. Please do not stand around the ice area as this is distracting to the skaters and coaches. Please watch from the seating areas.
  • All Test Stream Level 2 & 3 skaters must complete the required Amateur coaching hours. Failure to do so will result in test privileges being suspended. Amateur coaches are expected to arrive on time and be ready to skate for each of their assigned sessions.
  • During their lessons, a skaters coach may request music ( freeskate program or dance) for the skater. This is allowed once per 15 minute session.
  • Skaters are not permitted to stroke or free skate during dance session unless they are in a lesson. Skaters may work on any dance during the session, but are expected to yield right of way to those skaters doing the dance being played.
  • Skating Skills practice is not allowed during dance session.
  • No tests will be allowed if there are any outstanding financial amounts due to the club.
  • Skaters representing the club, at competitions and functions, are expected to conduct themselves in an acceptable and responsible manner at all times on and off the ice.
  • Hair accessories. No bobby pins (must clip not slip) will be allowed during sessions due to the potential danger to skaters and coaches when they manage to make there way onto the ice surface (exception - test day)

Skating Skills

  • Only skating skills will be allowed during the skills session (no dance or free skate). Skills will be allowed during free skate session.

Free Skate Rules

  • Be on the alert for other skaters at all times. Listen for the announcement of solo music and identify the skater to avoid interfering with the soloists program - give right of way. Your turn will come.
  • When your name is called for your music, WAVE YOUR HAND. This helps the music person identify you, as well as permitting other skaters to recognize you as the soloist.
  • In the playing of free skate music priority will be given to lesson requests.
  • Priority of right of way shall be as follows, when possible:
    a) coaches & skating instructors b) skaters in a lesson with music c) skaters in a lesson d) skaters with music
  • Skaters are NOT permitted to request their solo (only coaches may request music).
  • The music room is to be used only by those authorized by the Session Chairperson. Every effort will be made to play a skaters solo music at least once per session. Rotating solo lists are to be used in the music room. Skaters with more than one tape may select the one they want played and if time permits, the second tape may be played.
  • Stroking and stroking patterns are to be done ONLY during the allotted stroking time or during a lesson.
  • The music program (dances, Etc.) will be selected to meet the registered skaters requirements.
  • No skating with a Walkman. If you are working on a program, please listen to the tape off the ice and then continue skating when finished. This will lessen the dangers caused when hearing is impaired by the Walkman.
  • No clear ice will be allowed (exception - Competitive Session).

YOUR CO-OPERATION ON THE FOREGOING RULES WILL HELP THE CLUB RUN SMOOTHLY AND WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE SUCCESS OF EVERYONE INVOLVED. Failure to conform to these rules will result in a warning for the first offence and a suspension of skating privileges on the next occurrence.
